The project

About Behind the Feed

Behind the Feed is a continuing literary project exploring contemporary relationships, digital identity and the lives people inhabit beyond their public profiles.

Behind the screen

Every profile tells one story. Life tells another.

Social platforms offer fragments of a life: photographs, captions, reactions and carefully chosen moments. Behind the Feed turns its attention to what sits around and beneath those fragments — private conversations, uncertainty, vulnerability, trust and the relationships that cannot be understood through a profile alone.

Opening cycle

Four nations, connected lives

The opening cycle moves through England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, beginning in London with The Accidental Follow. Each story follows a different relationship while remaining connected by a shared interest in how people meet, communicate and belong in contemporary Britain.

Literary concerns

Online lives, ordinary places

Across its stories, the project considers authenticity, privacy, communication, belonging, place and community: how people present themselves, how they are understood and what becomes possible away from the screen.

Identity & authenticity

How people present themselves, what they choose to reveal and what remains outside the frame.

Connection & communication

How relationships begin, deepen and change through digital and face-to-face conversation.

Place & belonging

How cafés, bookshops, streets, neighbourhoods and shared spaces shape emotional life and human connection.

Privacy & vulnerability

What people protect, what they reveal and what it means to trust another person with what lies behind the public version of a life.

Beyond the novel

Stories to read. Questions to explore.

Behind the Feed invites readers to move between the novels and the questions surrounding them through fictional feeds, paired public and private perspectives, literary places, reader dilemmas, Book Club discussions and shared reflection.

The continuing project

One literary world. New relationships, places and questions.

Each Behind the Feed novel introduces a new central relationship while contributing to a wider literary world shaped by contemporary communication and everyday British places. New books can bring new characters, locations and questions into the project while preserving the connections that hold the series together.

Literature, place & participation

Stories rooted in contemporary Britain.

Behind the Feed uses contemporary relationship fiction to explore how people live, communicate and connect across the UK. Beginning in London, the opening cycle extends across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, bringing everyday British places, communities and changing forms of communication into its literary world.

Beyond the novels, the project creates opportunities for readers to encounter literature through discussion, reflection and shared participation. Book Club materials, reader conversations, literary activities and interactive experiences are designed to encourage engagement with the stories and the questions they raise.

As the project grows, it aims to create further opportunities for literary conversation with readers, reading groups, libraries, bookshops and cultural organisations across the UK.
